Jugtown Pottery: A Century of Art and Craft in Clay, Curated by Ray Owen
Exhibition dates: June 2 - June 30
Opening reception: Friday June 2, 2017 6-8pm
Weekday Gallery Hours: Monday- Friday, 9 am-5 pm
This exhibition will cover Jugtown Pottery and its development from the creation by Raleigh natives, Jacques and Juliana Busbee in 1917, to the present Jugtown of 2017.
The pottery is the state’s oldest continuously operating pottery and it has succeeded through the dedication of many people. An aesthetic vision and a deep admiration for the art of the craft, has guided Jugtown for one hundred years. Owned by the Vernon Owens family since 1983, the pottery continues to evolve and prosper. Pots from all eras will be included and pieces made by Vernon, Pam, Travis and Bayle Owens will be exhibited and available for purchase. Jewelry by Jennie Keatts of JLK Jewelry, who works closely with Jugtown firing her pottery stones, and photographs by long time Jugtown friend Angela Walker, will be on exhibit and available for purchase as well.
Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public on weekdays, from 9 a.m. t o 5 p.m., and almost all 3rd Saturdays.
