Henry Glassie has done field research on traditional ceramics in the United States, Brazil, Sweden, Italy, Turkey, India, Bangladesh, and Japan. College Professor Emeritus at Indiana University, Glassie has published twenty books. Three of them – Passing the Time in Ballymenone, The Spirit of Folk Art, and Turkish Traditional Art Today – were named among the notable books of the year by the New York Times. He has won many awards for his work, including the Haskins Prize of the American Council of Learned Societies for a distinctive career of humanistic scholarship.
